Free Clinics of Iowa formerly known as
Health Care Access Network (HCAN), is a nonprofit organization consisting of twelve
free medical clinics located throughout
Iowa. The clinics primarily provide acute
care services. Some locations provide additional services, such as obstetrics,
dental care, case management and
diabetic care.
Free Clinics of Iowa's administrative office assists in acquiring pharmaceuticals for patients at no cost or at reduced
cost through community collaborations.
Other community collaborations have helped to provide educational experiences for students seeking medical professions, to develop new methods to ensure access

to needed medical care in the community and to provide rewarding
medical and nonmedical volunteer
opportunities. Free Clinics of Iowa
provides volunteer opportunities
for over 800 doctors and support
staff in its free medical clinics. In 2003, these volunteers donated
over 14,000 hours in the clinics and
served in over 10,000 patient visits.
It is estimated that the value of the
volunteers' services is $2.1 million.

of community organizations and
foundations, businesses and
individual donations.
